ADTSEA’s First-Ever “Virtual” Conference a Success

Due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, the 2020 ADTSEA conference was not held in person.  However, the association adapted, hosting a very successful “virtual” conference last month (with our own Dr. Bill presiding as President!).  Participating via a webinar system, attendees experienced presentations on the latest traffic safety topics, including:

• Teen brain development


• Virtual Reality in the classroom


• Keeping today’s students engaged in the classroom


• Helping develop good habits in using modern vehicle technology

For those who could not attend the conference, sessions were recorded, allowing ADTSEA members to view, and potentially get credit for ongoing education- visit ADTSEA for more information.

AAA also had the honor of sponsoring the 2020 Kaywood Award, ADTSEA’s highest recognition for contributions to the field.  This year’s recipient was Jerry Gaines, of California.  Not only has Jerry served the driving safety field with distinction over many decades, he remains very active.  His guidance as ADTSEA worked to adapt to the COVID-19 situation was invaluable, significantly contributing to their “virtual” conference- resulting with an increase in member attendance.  Congratulations, Jerry!

Congratulations are also due to the ADTSEA management team, who put forth enormous effort and overcame many obstacles to ensure the conference was a success.  Their work is one reason why attendance was up by one-third this year- way to go!

Lastly, during the conference, ADTSEA and AAA were pleased to formally announce ADTSEA’s official partnership to make How to Drive its officially-endorsed curriculum. Since How To Drive contains the most current, research-based content that meets ADTSEA’s own National Standards for content and delivery, it made perfect sense for the organization to endorse AAA’s new curriculum as their official offering. It is no secret that 2020 has certainly proven to be a very challenging year and since we were not able to meet in person, here’s hoping we can be face-to-face again next year in Knoxville, TN- see you there!
